Vienna day 5, May 8th 25
Hi all
A quieter day today, we started out at the Schloss Belvedere - just out of the old town. Surprise, surprise, another Hapsburg palace, this one also a major art gallery featuring the works of many famous Austrians, including Gustav Klint and his famous painting “This Kiss”. Norm loves it, but it isn’t to Felicity or Holly’s taste.
The Schloss was beautiful of course:
It was a rainy day again, after yesterdays fine weather, but we still managed to see the substantial gardens around the palace,
After the Schloss we ventured back to the Operastrasse, and found a lovely coffee/cake house at the Imperial Hotel - for a late morning coffee and Torte, Viennese style.
At least Normie had coffee!
We made our way back to the apartment to watch Collingwood beat Fremantle - then off to an excellent late lunch at the Restaurant Kern Beisl just across our courtyard. Proper Austrian fare was had by all, including goulash, roast beef and pork, followed by a great local red. Time for a siesta!
Tonight we visited the local church, St Peter’s, built in 1733 and in true Baroque style, with one of the highest ceiling domes you could imagine.
We were not done for yet, so we explored the local neighbourhood for an Italian restaurant (just to break the potato and dumpling cycle). After a few attempts we found the Regina Margarita, and had a great night reminiscing of Tuscany.
We are off to bed soon, with an exciting day tomorrow at the Spanish Horses in the Hofburg Palace, all our love from the Travellers 🧳❤️⛪️🚇🏰
